Rodrigo Alzamora´s work surprises us with it´s screaming colors, it´s bold and uncompromised brushstrokes and by the framing of his figures who seem suspended in a half real, half abstract world. That´s why it´s so hard to label his work at a first glance. Alzamora’s plastic geography crosses frontiers between the abstract, the abstract figurative and the world of dreams.
Rodrigo Alzamora studied art in Florence and was not immune to the perfectionism of the classic masters. The well proportioned traits that give life to his figures are proof of this. Although, more defying than the drawing and the light in his work, are the combination of the aesthetics of color with it´s grotesque and perverse effects, which accentuate here and there otherwise less noticeable aspects of the individual, spectrum or object of its art. This is his watermark, his personal touch, this is how we can easily recognize his individuality.
We cannot be indifferent to Rodrigo Alzamora’s work.
There is no generosity in his work. He is not compliant with the world we live in. “Piccolina” might be an exciting woman or a victim of abuse. His “Dead Man Walking” is a ghost, or might we all be this dead man walking, stuck as we are to the system and living on a deadline?
